New Year Day’s Dip, South Bay Scarborough

It has been going for more than 20 years and more than a hundred people generally take part. It is to raise sponsorship money for charity, a quarter of which goes to the Scarborough Lions.Its vice-resident, Rob Hunter, said: “All the money that comes in, goes back into the local community.”

The club is expecting people from all over Yorkshire, Humberside, Tyneside and more to participate in the event.“I think it's actually probably the challenge; because really what we're asking them to do is get sponsored to dive into the coldest sea; probably short of the Arctic ocean in the whole of the world, and get wet and cold and get paid for it to help charities,” said Rob.

DJ Terry Farley’s New Year Party, The Piece Hall, Halifax

Major orchestras on every continent will play a popular programme of music featuring the Strauss waltzes and polkas with other well-known pieces by composers who found fame and fortune in Vienna.

Scarborough is no exception. Scarborough Spa Orchestra will present its traditional New Year's Day concert at 3pm.
