Angela Curran was nominated for her work with the Overgate Hospice and the community of Hove Edge and Brighouse.

The judges were particularly impressed by Angela’s initiative to set up Brighouse Friends of Overgate Group, where residents can come together and organise fundraising events for the hospice.

Since it was launched in 2008, the group has hosted annual quiz nights, music festivals, fashion shows, coffee mornings and book collections, raising over £50,000.

Angela will receive a family trip to London, including rail travel, hotel and visit to The London Bridge Experience and Tombs attraction, as well as a £500 donation from Grand Central to the charity of her choice.

Angela said: “I am overwhelmed to be chosen as the overall West Riding winner.

“I really enjoy fundraising and the work I’m doing at Overgate Hospice and knowing that I am helping an important local cause is reward enough.

“But to receive an award for this makes me really proud.”
