Calderdale folk prepare for Easter exodus

Although Easter will get off to a rainy start on Friday, the weather will improve across the weekend when temperatures will rise into double figures with highs of 13C.

On the roads, there are no planned motorway works in the region, but there will be some disruption to trains.

On Northern Rail services between Leeds and Manchester Victoria (via Bradford Interchange), trains will be replaced by buses between Manchester Victoria and Rochdale/Hebden Bridge.

But for those staying at home this weekend, there’s plenty to keep all the family entertained.

Starting tomorrow (Good Friday), the Heptonstall Players and Calder High School students will perform the historic Pace Egg play at various locations around the upper Calder Valley.

On Easter Sunday, there will be a packed schedule of events in Luddenden including an Easter Egg hunt, a children’s Easter bonnet competition and a senior treasure hunt.

The junior egg hunt will take place from 2-4pm and the senior treasure hunt will take place from 12 noon.

Meet at The Lord Nelson Pub, High Street, Luddenden.

There will also be a chance to enjoy Easter themed events at Jeremy’s at the Boathouse, Brighouse, and at the Whitehall pub, Hipperholme, on Easter Sunday.

And thousands of people are expected to line the streets of Hebden Bridge on Easter Monday for Hebden Bridge Rotary Club’s annual Duck Race.

Family fun days and various other events will take place across the borough over the weekend.
