Figures reveal Calderdale Covid-19 cases on the rise

The number of Covid-19 cases in Calderdale has increased on the previous week, NHS Digital figures showed.

The statistics for the period July 19 to 25, which were released on Tuesday, show Calderdale as the seventh worst affected upper tier authority, with a four percent case rate increase of 24.3 people per 100,000.

Calderdale’s Director of Public Health, Deborah Harkins, said measures in place to help reduce cases would take some time to show an impact.

“We know that the efforts we all took together at the start of the pandemic helped to keep the infection rate low in Calderdale, and we are grateful for the sacrifices that people made and for their adherence to restrictions to protect each other.

“We have only seen an increase in the local infection rate since restrictions started to ease.

“Together we can all play our part to reduce the spread, and we continue to step up measures such as testing locally,” she said.

The figure is similar to the council’s data showing 25.2 people (between 9 and 15 July).
