Football hero Madeley was Halifax businessman
Madeley, famously described as a 'Rolls Royce of a player' by Leeds United manager Don Revie, made 536 appearances in a one-club career for the Whites, earning 24 England caps.
He would go on to become a successful businessman following his retirement from the game, entering into a paint and DIY store business with his brothers.

Hide AdOne of their flagship stores was based close to The Shay Stadium in Halifax. The site now hosts the B&M home store and garden centre on Shay Syke. He also had a business on Silver Street in the town centre.
They would go on to sell their 13 stores to nationwide DIY brand Payless for a reported £27m in 1987.
