Helen Naylor, 40, of Mixenden, will be holding a sponsored walk with family and friends in order to raise £2,000 for Brain Tumour Research.

The walk comes after her daughter Olivia Naylor, 13, has recovered from a brain tumour, which developed into stage-three cancer.

Ms Naylor said: "You don't think it will ever happen to you but then you're hit a bombshell like that.

"I'm so happy she's better now."

The operation took place at the back end of 2016 when Olivia was only 10 years old.

It is thought Olivia had been having problems using the left side of her body and had been scheduled for an MRI scan on November 10 that year.

But after her parents became increasingly concerned, she was rushed to hospital at the beginning of November, receiving treatment at Leeds Children’s Hospital, with her family by her side.

Olivia would then have to go through 12 months of chemotherapy.

At the time, kind-hearted friends and strangers rallied around the family following their heartbreaking news, and they are set to do it again to raise funds for a charity in honour of Olivia's recovery.

"I've been following this charity for four years now, and it seems it doesn't get that much publicity," said Mr Naylor.

"I'm part of a walking and running club called Mixy Marches - we're a walking group of ladies who walk twice a week around Mixenden.

"We're all set to do a sponsored walk on September 26 to raise money for the Brain Tumour Research."

According to the charity, brain tumour deaths are rising, representing 2.6% of all deaths from cancer.

Brain tumours kill more children than leukaemia. Brain tumours kill more men under 70 than prostate cancer and more women under 35 than breast cancer. Incidences of and deaths from brain tumours are increasing.
