On May 10, Laura will travel to Leeds to compete in the city’s half marathon.

Laura said: “I picked this race as it’s exactly a year since my grandma died. I want to make her proud and will be thinking of her every step of the way.

“I hope to raise as much as I can for Overgate - the staff really looked after my grandma and I want to do what I can to say thank you.”

The Huddersfield University criminology student says she has never competed in a marathon before and all the training is new to her but she’s looking forward to taking on the personal challenge and hopes to encourage mum Beverley Clayton, who she lives at home with, to also dig out her running shoes and take part in the half marathon.

“My grandma was an amazing person -she would do anything for us,” said Laura.

Wife of Donald Mason, of Brighouse, Molly died from lymph node cancer at the age of 76.
