Convicted sex offender found working in Halifax market

Calderdale Council is now being forced to review its procedure as it was revealed that they are not able to undertake DBS checks on its traders.

The shocking discovery was outlined in an update report that went before the Cabinet Markets Working Party on the Markets Three Year Transformation Plan.

It is now being recommended that a robust occupancy agreement is now put in place.

The stall holder had his letting terminated.

A Calderdale Council spokesperson said: “A market tenant recently had his letting terminated due to his failure to inform the Council of a conviction; in breach of the requirement to do so in his occupancy agreement.

“A review is taking place to ensure that all appropriate safeguards that can be in place are in place.”
