Silver celebration

The silver jubilee of the Good Shepherd Church in Mytholmroyd was celebrated in fine style with a series of events to mark the occasion.

The three historic Catholic parishes of Luddenden, Mytholmroyd and Hebden Bridge combined to form a single community 25 years ago, with the opening of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Royal Fold, Mytholmroyd.

Consecrated in 1990 by former Bishop of Leeds David Konstant, at the Feast of Christ the King, the landmark also marked the end of the church’s year and the start of advent.

To mark his visit, Bishop Marcus planted the first apple tree in the new silver jubilee fruit orchard .

Weekend celebrations also included a well-attended Ceildh at Mytholmroyd community centre, a flower festival, organ recital, and on Sunday evening a concert with Hebden Bridge Band and a musical firework display.
