There was singing and dancing in the streets as Brighouse was transported to the golden days of the fabulous 40s.

The event, now in its third year, was another massive success as the streets were packed with displays, historic vehicles and thousands of re-enactors in period costume.

Celebrating the 70th anniversary of VE day, the end of World War Two in Europe, four stages provided live entertainment throughout the weekend and two dance areas kept visitor’s feet tapping to the vintage vibes which echoed through the town.

The wartime spirit was alive and well and ticket sales broke all previous records as dances, variety shows and a play provided top quality evening entertainment.

And a poignant remembrance service commemorated those who fell in the war.

Pauline and Bob Pickles travelled down from Durham, County Durham, especially for the event and said: “We love the way the whole town gets behind the event unlike some other 40s weekends.

“It’s been a wonderful weekend.”

Organisers said they had received nothing but positive feedback about the weekend and that it was great to see families enjoying the weekend’s entertainment in the sunshine.

Steven Lord, one of the organisers, said “Our volunteers have worked hard for months to organise this event and we have been rewarded with huge crowds of visitors who have had a great time.”

And organisers are already raring to go for next year’s event, which will take place on June 4 and 5 2016.
