Town says goodbye to community champion Lena

A woman who championed good causes in Todmorden, the town she had lived in all her life has died at the age of 91.

Lena Hall, who died on July 28, played a large role in town life and was given a certificate recognising her outstanding service in the community. She married Quenton in January 1947 and had three children, Muriel, Peter and Michael. A proud and loving mother, Lena was also a grandmother of five and a great grandmother of four.

Afer the death of her husband, Lena threw herself into Todmorden life. She knew many people though her work as a dispensing assistant and was a proud member of the Guild of Business and Professional Women. She was also a stalwart of the town’s twinning committee and even went to German language evening classes so she could converse with visitors to the town.

Lena volunteered with Age Concern, was a regular member of the Women’s Fellowship Meeting and more. Her daughter Muriel said Lena was always out doing something and made good use of her bus pass until her stroke seven months ago. Lena’s funeral was held at the Central Methodist Church.
