Rider injured after being thrown from her horse

Yesterday the CVSRT received a call from Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assist with the rescue the rider who suffered potential back injuries in Greetland.

The incident occurred on an isolated bridleway i when the horse was spooked by a herd of cows in a nearby field causing it to bolt over a boundary wall into the field adjacent, throwing the rider in the process.

Sixteen mountain rescue team members were available to respond immediately and made their way to the casualty’s location, either in team vehicles or directly.

Within 12 minutes the first team members were on-scene and began to assist the ambulance crew.

Despite the warm weather, the casualty was actually cold so she was wrapped in a winter cas bag and placed in a kisu shelter to help raise her body temperature.

Once comfortable, the casualty was then packaged in a vacuum mattress (to assist with immobilization) then transferred by stretcher to the ambulance at a nearby farm.
