Wizard fun for the half-term break at Halifax children’s museum Eureka

Children can follow the yellow brick road to Eureka this half-term holiday to help Dorothy and Toto find their way over the rainbow.

The Halifax children’s museum is giving its young visitors the opportunity to meet iconic characters from The Wizard of Oz and take part in challenges and learn vital science tricks.

Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion, will be over at Eureka from Kansas from Sunday May 24 -Sunday June 1, seeking help from families to help them defeat the Wicked Witch of the West.

Children will learn to understand life in the Emerald City, how to create a tornado and a rainbow and even how to make a witch disappear.

Discovering all about life in Oz is free along with standard Eureka admission or a Eureka Annual Pass.

Admission for adults and children over 3 is £11.95, 1-2 year-olds are £4.95 and babies have free entry.

The museum is open from 10am-5pm throughout the week.

Parents looking for planned activities for their children during the May half term holiday could find entertainment for their children at Calderdale College’s Inspire Sports & Fitness Centre in Halifax.

The centre will be running a May half-term Sports holiday club for boys and girls aged 7-12 years old between 9am-3.30pm from Tuesday 27 May - Friday May 30.

Youngsters will be able to choose from a rugby camp - £30, full week - £40 and single days at any camp - £12.

Lee Greenwood, Rugby League Coach at the College, said: “Boys and girls can enjoy four days of sports coaching at Calderdale College during May half term. Halifax RLFC 1st team coaching staff and players will be running a three day rugby skills camp on Wednesday 28th – Friday 30th May as well as individual day camps for cricket, netball and basketball.”

On Tuesday May 27 there will be a football camp delivered by fully qualified coaches in association with FC Halifax Town and a judo camp delivered by the British School of Judo Excellence.

“If your child enjoys sport, this is a great opportunity for them to receive professional coaching, learn new skills and have loads of fun in a safe environment,” said Lee.
