Bridge go top on rain-hit Saturday

A start was made in five out of the six Premier games - the Sowerby SP v Copley match was the exception - and Sowerby Bridge are the new outright leaders after picking up five points.

They started play level on 36 points with champions Jer Lane and Mytholmroyd and bowled out struggling visitors Bradshaw for 90.

Jake Dixon and Ashton Richardson took four wickets each as Bradshaw lost their way after being 32 without loss.

The last five wickets tumbled for the addition of five runs but Bridge’s hopes of wrapping up victory were dashed by more heavy rain.

Jer Lane picked up three points from their home game with Booth, the side they beat in last year’s Parish Cup final.

Lane lost Andrew Pinfield, trapped leg before by Richard Laycock, for four with the score on 24.

However, Raqeeb Younas (66 no) and Jordan Laban (53 no) had added 101 and put Lane in a decent position before play was ended.

Mytholmroyd collected only two points from the trip to Triangle, another side boasting an unbeaten record this season.

Gary Rodger (55) and Nathan Madden (52) took the home side to 170 for four off 30 overs.

A fourth wicket stand of 88 between Jason Slator (59) and Scott Moody (44 no) had helped Southowram to 150 for four off 39 overs at home to Warley.

The batsmen from Oxenhope and SBCI enjoyed what little action there was in the middle section.

Oxenhope’s Craig Baillett just had time to reach 100 not out in his side’s 203 for three at Outlane before the weather intervened.

SBCI’s M.Scholefield (82 no) and George Hampshire (54) were among the runs in their side’s 154 for one at home to Luddenden Foot.

The first round of the Parish Cup and Crossley Shield is due to take place today and postponements are expected.

Next Sunday is the reserve date and games must be completed by then, using a bowl-off if necessary.
