Local trio are beaten

All three were beaten, Lightcliffe falling victim to a fine knock from former Yorkshire player Joe Sayers and slipping to eighth in the Bradford League’s top section.

Lightcliffe made 193 for six, thanks mainly to a second-wicket stand of 105 between Alex Stead (59) and Rhys Jowett (44).

However, the hosts won by seven wickets and with 17 balls to spare, thanks mainly to Sayers’ 109 not out.

Sayers was joined by Ian Philliskirk (47) at the fall of the first wicket on 29 and they added 113 to set up victory.

Brighouse were beaten by the same margin away to derby rivals Hartshead Moor in Division Two.

The visitors were 63 for eight before skipper Umar Salim hit 41 not out and helped his side finish on 134 for nine.

Fakhar Hussain took a couple of wickets to leave Moor 34 for three but overseas man Fahad Ul-Haq (60no) and Craig Field (34no) snuffed out visiting hopes.

Northowram Fields remain second in the Central Yorkshire League’s Championship in spite of an 11 run home defeat by Wakefield St Michaels.

Their decision to bowl first backfired when Saints openers James Cooper (100) and Richard Atkinson (68) put on 171 for the first wicket inside 38 overs.

Saints went on to make 260 for seven with opening bowlers Josh Bennett-Keer and Zafar Khan taking all the wickets between them.

At 130 for six in the 34th over the home side looked out for the count but in-form Glen Morrison hit an unbeaten 60 off 44 balls and he and Jason Smith (38) added 63 to take the Rams closer than expected.
