He put pen to paper at last Saturday evening’s presentation evening, at which he mopped up the leading goalscorer award as well as the player of the season awards from his teammates and the supporters.

The Sheffield-based striker, who is a cousin of the manager Vill Powell, scored 18 goals in 29 appearances and would no doubt have bagged more but for a nagging shin and ankle injury and a three match suspension.

Powell’s player of the season award at the presentations, which were held following the under-21s’ home game against Goole, went to centre back Connor Griffin.

Young player of the season was promising 18-year-old goalkeeper George Clarke.

Powell said that he was close to concluded his signings from the past season’s squad and full details would be released next week.

“I have just a few players to sort out who are thinking over offers and two players, one of whom has an offer from a higher placed club and another who has problems over accommodation with his parents moving down south,” he revealed.

“I want to get those from the present squad I am retaining all nailed down during the rest of this week and over the weekend before I go on holiday in the middle of the month.”

Utility player George Gomersall, who had been on loan from Guiseley, will not be coming back and said his farewells to the squad. “I have enjoyed my time here and it is a good club and I really wish them well for next season,” he said.

Chairman Charlie Tolley gave his clubman of the year award to Barry Thomas, who put in an excellent shift in the dressing room extensions and continues to work on ground maintenance and coaching the under-21s.

Clarke also won the under-21s players’ player award.

Brooksbank student Callum Joyce, a 16-year-old central midfielder with great potential, and also a talented rugby league player, picked up the manager’s player award for the under-21s.

Preparations for next season start again on Saturday at 10am with the under-21 team trials.
