Siddal’s nightmare first quarter

In excellent conditions at Reactiv Park, the visitors surged into a 26-0 lead shortly after half-time and two tries for the home side only served to give Siddal some respectability on the scoreboard.

The Hull team took only two minutes to get on the scoreboard in the battle of the top two in the Premier Division.

A spilled ball on the last tackle was picked up by Dan Parker, who stepped over the whitewash, Ian Kerman converting.

The visitors might have had a second, Will Forsyth chasing down Carl Puckering, who had intercepted in West’s 20 metre area.

Another break, this time by full back Brett Turner, earned Hull their second try as he sent in Kerman to finish.

Turner then followed up with one of his own, leaving Siddal down 22-0 down after 20 minutes.

Both teams pounded each other’s defence for the remainder of the half, but neither managed to turn pressure and possession into points.

West Hull extended their lead in the second half when Sam Cator stepped through a ragged Siddal defensive line.

The reliable Kerman kicked a penalty when Siddal were penalised for a high tackle.

Siddal finally opened their tally as Scott Caley slipped the ball out to Daniel Williams, who muscled his way over. Gareth Blackburn converted.

Ten minutes later the home side added a further unconverted effort courtesy of Caley, who went through on the short side.

Both teams missed chances in what was becoming an increasing bad tempered game.

Siddal will hope to get back on track at home to Wath Brow Hornets in the league next Saturday (2.30).
