All about the Playhouse

To celebrate 70 years since The Halifax Playhouse was bought by the members of the Halifax Thespians, a Heritage Open Day takes place on Friday and Saturday September 11/12, giving visitors the chance to see behind the scenes for free.

Lord Grossman, Patron of Heritage Open Days says the organisation is in “a stronger position than ever before to celebrate wonderfully diverse local heritage, and to encourage local communities to engage with the hidden histories on their doorstep”.

Lots of people have been to the playhouse, but what’s it like looking out from the stage? Visitors can learn about high tech sound and lighting equipment used to enhance performances, and understand the hard work and fun that goes into putting on shows in the famous theatre that first opened its doors in 1949.
